The Family Sponsored visa is a type of visa introduced by the Australian Immigration Department to bring family members together. This enables spouses, children, parents, and other family members to migrate to Australia subject to certain pre-conditions.
The Australian citizens, permanent citizens of this country, and eligible New Zealand citizens sponsor these family-sponsored visas.
There are over 60000 visas issued by the Australian Immigration Department each year, nearly one-third of the total visas issued per year. These family visas are distributed under the “Family Stream” program.
Family-Sponsored Visas are mainly distributed under four main categories which are discussed below.
Partner Visa
This visa class allows the fiance(e)s, spouses, and same-sex partners of Australian citizens, permanent residents, and eligible New Zealand citizens. These visas are issued under Partner Visa Subclass 820 and 801, Partner Provisional Visa Subclass 309 and Partner Migrant Visa Subclass 100.
The first requirement for a partner visa is to possess evidence showing their relationship is genuine and lasting, with both partners intended to live together permanently.
The partner visa requires only one application for the temporary and permanent visa. The applicant is issued a temporary visa to travel from his/her country to Australia where the status can be adjusted to permanent resident.
Parent Visa
This visa class allows parents of eligible New Zealand citizens or Australian permanent residents to stay with them temporarily and permanently. These visas are issued under two categories: Aged Parent (residence) under Subclass 804 and Parent (migrant) under Subclass 103.
To fulfil the aged parent visa eligibility, the parents must be sponsored by their child or stepchild who is a permanent resident or citizen of Australia and an eligible New Zealand citizen. That said, they must meet at least one of the following requirements:
- At least half of your children are Australian citizens, permanent residents, eligible New Zealand citizens; or
- The number of children living in Australia as citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens is more than in any other country.
Child Visa
Like the parent visa, the child visa is issued under several subclasses. Even though most children migrate to Australia with their parents, some migrate separately. The Australian Immigration Department provides visas for biological children, orphan relatives, and adopted children. These visas are issued under Child Visa Subclass 101 and Subclass 802.
Other Family Visas
This visa class enables Australian citizens, permanent residents, and eligible New Zealand to bring their siblings, grandparents, or orphan relatives with them.
